What advantage is there for me to use the SELF SERVE feature?
The primary advantage is the cost savings. You can search the Accommodation Provider data base free of charge – with no costs incurred until you are ready to book.

When should I use the Full SERVE option?
If you do not feel comfortable doing a search yourself, let VHS use its years of experience to find accommodation that meets your needs. Just complete the Request for Accommodation and submit it to VHS. We will do the rest.

Why should I use VHS?
Although it is possible to book accommodation over the internet privately, there are risks in doing this. VHS monitors its Accommodation Providers, eliminating those who, for any reason, do not meet expectations. In addition, VHS facilitates the international transfer of funds - ensuring that your money is not in the Accommodation Provider's hands until 5 days after you arrive. There is no danger that you will pay the first month's rent and then discover that your Accommodation Provider has provided false information and you have no place to stay.

Can I work while I study in Canada?
To obtain a Work VISA, check out the Government of Canada website at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/work.asp. We also recommend to contact the Canadian embassy in your home country before leaving to find out if you will be able to work.

Do I need Medical Insurance?
Yes, medical services can be very expensive and you should be prepared for all possibilities. Inquire about private medical insurance in your own country before leaving or contact StudentGuard through the link provided on the Student/Guest page.

What is a Mail Centre and why is it important?
Contact between you and the Accommodation Provider is only possible through our secure Mail Centre and therefore secures everybody's privacy.

Are there any "House Rules" when I book a Homestay or Shared Accommodation?
We recommend to our Homestay or Shared Accommodation Providers that they have a written list of rules available at your arrival. This helps to avoid problems later and having it in writing makes it easier for you to follow. If you don't understand something, please ask your Accommodation Provider for clarification to avoid any misunderstandings. Click here for some of the rules that you might encounter.
